Veneto wine: the most famous

Veneto is known and renowned for wines such as Amarone, produced in Valpolicella Classica. With an impenetrable red color, Amarone della Valpolicella has a scent of black cherry, spices and vanilla. In order to be recognized as Amarone della Valpolicella PDO, the operations of drying and vinification of grapes, aging and bottling of wines must take place in the production area; the grapes dried to obtain the wine Amarone della Valpolicella PDO may not be vinified before 1 December and before release for consumption, the wine must be aged for at least two years from 1 January following the year of production of the grapes.

Moving from Valpolicella to the Treviso hills, another famous Veneto wine is Prosecco, produced by the vinification of the Glera grape. According to the production area, different types of Prosecco can be distinguished:

  • Extra Brut, with the least amount of residual sugar, is the least sweet of the line of Prosecco and the most suitable for aperitifs;
  • Brut, with a residual sugar of up to 12 grams per liter, is slightly more structured and suitable for pasta dishes or fish dishes;
  • Extra Dry, with a residual sugar between 12 and 17 grams per liter, is sweeter and suitable for white meat and fish dishes;
  • Dry, with a residual sugar between 17 and 32 grams per liter, is perfect in combination with cheeses not too mature and dry desserts;
  • Demi-sec, with sugar levels between 31 and 50 grams per liter, is a perfect wine to accompany desserts.

Other well-known Veneto wines are Soave, Bardolino, Lugana, Colli Euganei and Lessini Durello.
