Piedmont wine: discover the wines that have made history

Continuing our journey to discover the producers that UFarmer hosts, today we are in Piedmont, a region known for wines such as Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Barbera D’Alba DOC, Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, Alta Langa DOCG, Gattinara DOCG, Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG, Roero DOCG, Nizza DOCG, Asti Spumante DOCG, Gavi DOCG, Terre Alfieri DOCG, Timorasso Colli Tortonesi DOC and many others.

Barolo DOCG is a wine obtained from the vinification of the Nebbiolo grape and is characterized by a period of aging of 36 months, of which 18 in wood, for the basic version and 62 months, of which 18 in wood for the “reserve” version. History teaches us that Barolo DOCG wine has been produced since time immemorial, but it is thanks to Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour and Giulia Colbert Falletti, the last Marquise of Barolo, who from the mid-nineteenth century began to produce a rich and harmonious wine, become the ambassador of Piedmont throughout Europe.

Barbaresco DOCG is a wine also obtained from Nebbiolo grape, but, unlike Barolo DOCG, it has a wine-making period of 26 months, of which 9 in wood, for its basic version, and, at least 50 months, 9 in wood, for its “reserve” version. Barbaresco DOCG is a still red wine that differs in some details according to the production area.

Asti Spumante DOCG is a sparkling Piedmontese wine, comes from the cultivation of the Muscat Blanc grape, an ancient grape used to make sweet and aromatic wines. Asti Spumante DOCG is a white or straw Piedmontese wine. The spumantizzazione of Asti Spumante DOCG takes place by classic method or champenoise in bottle, which returns structured organoleptic characteristics and provides a minimum refermentation time of nine months.
