Emilia-Romagna is a land of castles, of DOP and IGP products, of Giuseppe Verdi’s music. It is the homeland of balsamic vinegar, Bologna mortadella and the great car and motorcycle manufacturers, but it is also synonymous with the sea and fun.

Lambrusco is one of the Emilia-Romagna wines produced between the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Parma. It is a sparkling red wine with a fruity aroma, pleasant acidity and a moderate alcohol content. Lambrusco is available in seven different versions based on the production area: Sorbara, Grasparossa, Salamino, Marani, Maestri, Montericco and Ancellotta.

Sangiovese is the most cultivated black grape variety in Italy and is part of the composition of many Emilia-Romagna wines and beyond. It is a wine of probable Etruscan origin, known since 1500 in the area north of the Tiber and south of the Arno. The name Sangiovese is linked to various traditions and sayings, among the most likely “sanguegiovese”, or “Blood of Jupiter” in relation to Monte Giove in Romagna. Due to the high production of Sangiovese, wine producers must use scrupulous cultivation practices, however, Sangiovese is a type of late-ripening grape, with an excellent ability to adapt to different types of soil.

Gutturnio is one of the Emilia-Romagna wines with the most noble and distant origins in time. Its production was codified in Roman times by Lucio Calpurnio Pisone, father-in-law of Julius Caesar, while in recent times, Gutturnio wine was rediscovered in 1938, by the oenologist Mario Prati, following the discovery of a large silver cup, the “gutturnium”, on the Piacenza banks of the Po. In 1967, Gutturnio wine became one of the first DOC wines in Italy and its production was regulated by the specification which indicates the various types: Gutturnio Classico, Gutturnio Classico Riserva, Gutturnio Classico Superiore , Gutturnio Frizzante, Gutturnio Riserva and Gutturnio Superiore.

Pignoletto best represents the Bolognese Hills among Emilia-Romagna wines. It is an ancient vine, already known in Roman times, a relative of Grechetto di Todi or Grechetto Gentile and imported into Italy by Greek colonists. To date, the production area of Pignoletto is between the Hills of Imola and the Hills of Rimini, where it is also called Rebola. Pignoletto is a light, fresh and tasty wine, perfect when paired with fish dishes and cold cuts platters.
